i’m scoring free internet in my hotel room right now, but i’m kind of scared they’re going to find out somehow and bill me anyway. gahh, i just turned the channel to Step Mom and it’s the part where Susanne Sarandon is giving her kids their Christmas gifts…and asking them to keep her in their hearts. aw.
strolled along Decatur and ate at Coops (Ry’s recommendation)–rabbit and sausage jambalaya & fried shrimp and crawfish. i don’t think i’ve ever had jambalaya before. it was okay. it had a nice kick but the rabbit was kind of dry–is rabbit normally dry? and the fried shrimp and crawfish got to be a bit much…so i started sliding off the batter and just eating the meat. my napkin was gross in the end. the beer, however, (i started drinking again…for a good reason though–eug isn’t being deported!). abita jockomo–very reminiscent of brooklyn lager. ah, new york.
the Ramones’ Blitzkrieg Bop was playing and one of a pair of couples nearby started chanting along – “AI OH! LET’S GO! AI OH! LET’S GO!” then the husband of the other couple responded, “Americans really like doing that…it’s like saying, ‘USA! USA! USA!’” [maybe he was Canadian? either that or making a generalization of which he is a part of.] The wife of the chanters looked like a giant marshmallow and kept asking, “anyone wanna try my red beans???” and no one did. the wife of the canadian picked at her fried shrimp sandwich. i caught her shove one into her mouth and she did not look happy.
Nola’s cute. there literally is jazz/music everywhere. everyone’s walking around with a beer in hand. young people sitting along the sidewalk have either dreadlocks or mohawks and they know how to strum a banjo. and much to my delight, i saw someone playing a washboard.
i have to spend the rest of the night tending to my disgusting leg wounds…my mother has suggested urine.
there’s a House marathon on now. how appropriate.
